What do they say about
the DL CAJUN BAND?
“When I think of traditional, all the live bands on KRVS 30 years ago, at Jazzfest and the fairs in bayou shrimping towns like Chauvin, that’s what I hear from the DL Cajun Band. It really takes me back.
“Just believe. John is channeling Iry [Lejeune] and Lawrence [Walk- er], and Mary follows the Balfa family tradition with a li’l Sady [Courville] thrown in. You hear bass and rhythm guitar – and there’s Doug doing both on his acoustic guitar. The band is picking songs from way back, some of the first recorded things ever.
“Make the music. The music will make the dance as it always has. It sounds like it did in dance halls 70 and 90 years ago, and in homes for 150 years before that, preserving the beauti- ful old French traditions and melodies.
“ People will hear it and fall in love all over again.”
